The Weitz Center for Development Studies collaborates with the MASHAV (Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation) to provide International Training on Green Growth: Policy Measures and Implementation Tools to be held from 9 June to 3 July 2014.
Green Growth is a concept adopted by the UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) in Korea 2005 at the Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development. The concept evolved out Smart Growth and Triple Bottom Line policies for sustainable development. It is a means by which the current economy can make the transition to a sustainable economy. It aims to ensure that economic and environmental sustainability are compatible.
The Weitz Center for Development Studies is a leader in capacity building for sustainable development dedicated to enhancing the efforts of international agencies, governments, communities, civil society and private sector organizations to achieve positive social and economic change worldwide.
The training participants will attend lectures in class and on-site conferences, learning from the contributions of UNEP’s (United Nation’s Environment Program) advisory services on Green Economy and PAGE (Partnership for Action on Green Economy) Initiative; World Bank Institute (WBI) e-learning on Energy Sector Strategies for Green Growth; UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) case study of Green Industry Development; and relevant Israeli experiences.
The scholarships cover 25 days with full board, tuition, accommodation and meals, medical insurance and transportation from/to the airport in Israel.
Eligibility Criteria –
- The training is designed for professionals and decision makers from developing countries – transport, energy, water, waste, agriculture, climate related, infrastructure and economic development policy makers working in government ministries or local authorities; NGOs and CBOs active in the field of entrepreneurship and startup; development agencies; policy makers of local and foreign investment funds and development banks; business organizations; and academic institutions.
How to Apply?
- Candidates must complete the appropriate Application Forms (including health certificate, declaration etc.).
- The completed forms should be submitted at the Israeli Mission in candidate’s area and sent as a Word Document attachment to the Weitz Center office before deadline.
The selected participants will be sent detailed instructions on the pre-training assignments they must submit prior to the training.
