The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship invites organizations in Asia/Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa, and North America for the Social Entrepreneur of the Year Competition. This is a platform for the organizations around the globe to highlight and advance leading models of sustainable social innovation.
Benefits
- Selected winners will be included in the Schwab Foundation network of social entrepreneurs. Special benefits – pro-bono consulting services and scholarships to executive education courses at world-class institutions.
- The winners will be invited to the regional meetings of the World Economic Forum which are relevant to their work.
- Excellent finalists or winners under 40 will also be nominated to the Young Global Leaders network of the World Economic Forum.
Eligibility Criteria
- The global selection is open to all organizations based in Asia/Asia Pacific (except India), Africa, Europe (except France), Latin America (except Brazil, Chile, Venezuela), Middle East and North Africa, and North America.
- Candidate organizations should have at least three years of operations at the time of their application and should clearly be able to demonstrate they have graduated beyond the “proof of concept” phase.
- The innovation must have achieved transformative social change.
- Candidate organization must demonstrate proven social and/or environmental impact. They should have a monitoring and evaluation system in place and be able to not only cite quantifiable data when discussing their impact but also explain how the information is used to improve the organization’s product or service offering.
- The social entrepreneur’s initiative should have wider reach and scope.
- The social initiative should be scalable.
Application Process
- Submit the completed application form along with curriculum vitae, a recent evaluation report of the organization, income statements and other relevant documents.
- Selected applicants are invited for second round – need to submit completed information forms.
- Those who qualify become semi-finalists. Site visit to candidate’s organization and/or interviews with the candidate and key informants takes place.
