The Department for International Development (DFID) in the United Kingdom is a major source of funds and partnership opportunities for NGOs around the world. DFID offers a significant amount of funding resources for NGOs through grant opportunities and requests for applications. Its funding resources support a wide range of issues areas: education, health, poverty reduction, the environment, water and sanitation.

Despite this, many NGOs often do not apply for funding with DFID because of the complexity and highly competitive nature of the DFID grant system including difficulty in understanding grant guidelines, compilcated instructions and more.

This entry-level webinar will help NGOs identify and apply to DFID request for applications and grant opportunities.

Apply to Participate in Meeting the WASH 2020 Challenge!

DFID invites applications for its early stage of ‘Meeting the WASH 2020 Challenge programme’, expected to operate in a similar manner as the current WASH Results Programme.

The programme aims to reach people with improved sanitation or water together with hygiene promotion by March 2020.

DFID will directly oversee and manage the portfolio, providing management, policy and monitoring oversight, having geographic coverage including low- and lower-middle income countries where there are significant WASH needs  and where relevant high levels of malnutrition (predominately stunting or wasting). The principal focus should be on the priority countries where DFID has a bilateral programme.

Programme Focus

To be classified as nutrition-sensitive, a programme needs to:

  • Include nutrition as an objective, and include malnutrition indicators (e.g. stunting/ wasting) at impact-level
  • Contribute to at least one nutrition-sensitive outcome – in this case the relevant outcome is ‘improve women’s or adolescent girls’ or children’s access to water, sanitation and hygiene’
  • Be aimed in part or in full at women and / or children below 5 years DFID’s intent is to source, through a competitive process, up to five suppliers or consortia of suppliers to deliver WASH and nutrition-sensitive WASH results that will make a significant contribution to the UK Government’s WASH and Nutrition targets.

DFID will hold two early market engagement events during the month of April to discuss specific future programmes requirements in Nepal. These include:

DFID’s Programme on Preventing Violence Against Adolescent Girls in Ghana

The UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) has announced a five year programme titled- Preventing Violence Against Adolescent Girls (PVAAG) in order to contribute to the prevention of violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Ghana.

It combines five mutually supportive components, bringing a holistic approach to the prevention of violence against women and girls that works at the individual, interpersonal, community and societal levels. At outcome level, the intervention seeks to reduce violence as experienced among adolescent girls in target communities.

The programme focuses on improving the enabling environment and the capability of adolescent girls to protect themselves from violence (including addressing harmful social norms that drive VAWG) as well as strengthening the evidence base on violence against adolescent girls in Ghana. Our intention is to focus on a results-based contract for this assignment.

Nepal Health Sector Programme III: DFID’s Initiative to Support Health Sector in Nepal

Department for International Development (DFID), with an intention to implement a new programme of support to Nepal Government, is currently seeking applications for its program titled- Nepal Health Sector Programme (NHSP) III.

The new programme will be an integral part of the third sector wide approach (SWAp) in the health sector in Nepal and is likely to form a combination of financial aid and technical assistance. The main purpose of the technical assistance will be to improve the efficiency of the entire Government of Nepal’s health sector programme. It will need to align to the new five year health sector plan (Nepal Health Sector Programme– 3) and work alongside Government and other donor partners. The technical assistance will need to focus on the critical areas that are constraining the delivery of both equitable and quality health services and the efficiency of the health service delivery system.

The United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) is currently inviting applications for its programme titled- Migration and Refugee-Livelihoods Research in Ethiopia.

Program Focus

DFID Ethiopia will deliver a research project as part of a five-year programme from 2016 to 2020 that will:

  • Investigate and articulate the ‘pull and push factors’ related to Ethiopian migration, and identify the key humanitarian concerns.
  • Identify factors including market-opportunities, policy interventions and social frameworks that affect or could contribute to improved refugee household livelihoods practices and results among camps and for those living more directly within host communities, to inform proposed DFID programme interventions.
  • Track and assess the impact of different interventions on migration patterns, sustainable refugee livelihoods and humanitarian indicators over the period of the programme. This includes comparing different contexts and factors that may contribute (including DFID’s proposed funding for refugee humanitarian assistance and service delivery and looking at other programmes and interventions active).
  • Contribute to potential future programme design, changes in programme design and, policy development.

The Accountable Justice in Pakistan Programme (AJPP) aims to strengthen accountability and oversight of rule of law institutions in Pakistan, engage citizens in reforms and legally empower citizens to access justice.

Program Objectives

AJPP objectives are to achieve:

  • Increased accountability and oversight of law enforcement and justice institutions.
  • Increased engagement by citizens in reforms and legal empowerment for informed citizen choice of justice mechanism.

Award Information

The budget for this programme is 8, 000, 000 GBP – 12, 000, 000 GBP subject to ongoing need and availability of funding.

Eligibility Criteria

The law institutions of Pakistan are eligible to participate for the program.
