Many development practitioners, who seek to build a career at the United Nations, are quite aware that the competition to apply for a UN job is not only fierce but the entire selection process is so tough that many drop out at the very initial stages of recruitment. Candidates are required to hold advanced degrees with considerable work experience both within and outside the UN system to apply for a proper UN posting. Additionally, there are various levels of exams and interviews that you may need to clear before reaching a desirable position.
However, UN and many other international development agencies have set up what is called the ‘Young Professionals Programme’ that seeks to recruit and employ young people using a new system that is not as complicated as the traditional process of hiring employees.
