Applications are invited for Thomson Reuters Foundation training course, aimed to support IFAD’s objective to highlight the issue of rising food prices and global food security. Journalists from countries where IFAD operates are welcome to apply. The workshop will focus on honing their reporting skills, to enable them to effectively cover the issues facing the rural people and their communities, and make the policy and decision makers take a note of these issues.
The workshop will be conducted for three days in Dhaka, including a site visit to agricultural project sponsored by IFAD. This is the third one in a series of five workshops that will be conducted in 2011. Issues such as basic economics of food production, market access, and competition for resources, population movements and access to water will be discussed at the workshop.
Journalists from Asia are eligible to apply. The candidates should be employed as journalists or should be actively contributing to media organizations. They should be dedicated to promote career in journalism in their respective countries, have two years’ professional experience, and be proficient at spoken and written English.
Thomson Reuters Foundation, with the help of IFAD funding, offers complete funding that will be made available to journalists from developing countries, working for established media organizations. The fund would include air travel expenses (economy class), accommodation, transfers and meals. The candidates are expected to bear the visa cost.
In order to apply, the candidate will have to submit a biography of up to 250 word, Two recent published articles, and a statement of his/her work.
The training workshop will be conducted from Nov. 21, 2011 to Nov. 24, 2011, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
