Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation has announced course on Integrated pest management and food safety. This 3 weeks course will be conducted in The Netherlands, 01 – 19 June 2015.
Theme: The challenge of combining pesticide use and ensuring safe food
Good Agricultural Practices and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) have become essential components of sustainable agriculture. The integration of various control measures, where pesticides are used only as a last resort, ensures that pests remain below the economic threshold. The IPM approach limits the negative side effects pesticides can have on the environment as well as on occupational & public health.
Outcomes:
- Food chains and the role of primary production in achieving food safety
- Understanding the link between IPM, food safety as a result of primary production and protection of the environment
- Public and private food safety grades and certification
- The roles of stakeholders in supporting the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices, sustainable agriculture and IPM
- Development of IPM policies and institutional innovations by using multi-stakeholder processes
- Participation levels in IPM policies and implementation
Eligibility criteria:
The basic prerequisite for participation in this course is active interest and professional experience in this field. Participants should be proficient in English, and have at least a BSc degree or an equivalent academic qualification.
