Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation is organizing the Training on ‘ Netherlands Fellowship for Training on ‘Managing risk and hazards in the face of natural disaster’ in the Netherlands from 31 March – 11 April 2014. Support to participate in this training programme is available from the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP).
Natural hazards are a well-known phenomenon to humankind. However, there are strong indicators to suggest that the frequency and intensity of climate-related natural hazards will continue to increase under the effect of global warming. Climate change impacts pose a real and considerable threat to communities living in hot-spots of vulnerability to extreme meteorological and hydrological events.
Training is organized by Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation.
Course objectives–
This course aims to enhance capacity of a community or organization for adapting to changing climate-related hazards, improving resilience and disaster preparedness, using adaptation to climate change as an entry point.
Topics covered- are climate change adaptation, disaster risk management, vulnerability, resilience, multi-stakeholder processes and policy. The training programme has an interactive nature and incorporates group work, case studies, interactive lectures, discussions, presentations, field visits and excursions.
Target audience
This training course is designed for managers, policy makers, specialists and researchers who are professionally involved in the management of risks and hazards and climate change. Applicants may work in public and civil society sectors, for universities, national research or development programmes, for government organisations or NGOs. Applicants need at least have 3 years professional experience and proficiency in English is required.
