Opportunity: BBC Media Journalists Training Program-Algeria

Applicants are invited for BBC Media training program for Algeria. This project is funded by EU in the areas of professional journalism, new media, and management. The objective of this training is to improve the reporting of EU social, economic and political policies within the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Caucasus

Media Neighborhood is a three- year training programme for journalists, editors and managers from broadcast, print and online. It is funded by the European Union and delivered by a consortium led by BBC Media Action.

Courses offered-

  • BBC News Reporting Course – 06-08 May 2013
  1. Making stories relevant and engaging for the audience
  2. Understanding the EU and its relationship with its neighbors
  3. Journalistic ethics
  4. Effective news gathering
  5. Professional interviewing techniques

Criteria-

  1. Applicants must have worked in an established media outlet of any platform for at least 2 years as a reporter or editor.
  2. Ideally applicants will have an interest in covering international news, especially concerning the EU and related subjects.
  • Multi-Platform Ethical Journalism 16-20 June 2013
  1. Basics of multi-platform journalism
  2. Creating professional content for on-line
  3. Techniques of mobile reporting
  4. Ethics and responsibilities of on-line journalism
  5. Citizen journalism
  6. Building on-line communities, involving the audience
  7. Search Engine Optimization
  8. Blogging, Social Media and Online Curation.

Criteria-

  1. Basic experience as a multi-media journalist
  2. Current involvement in multi-media or on-line journalism
  3. Experience in blogging and the use of social media for news production, distribution and citizen activism
  4. Editorial experience in multi-media environment
  •  Media Managers and Senior Editors on Professional and Financial Independence- 9-13 June 2013 (TBC)

  2. Strategic marketing
  3. Developing practical tools – mechanics of selling advertising preparing price lists, negotiation techniques
  4. Effective broadcast scheduling
  5. Managing multi-platform content
  6. Newsroom management, including integrated newsrooms

  8. EU and its policies towards your country and region
  9. HR development
  10. Winning donor grants and project management

  1. Current managerial or senior editorial position in a media outlet

  3. Programming or scheduling
  4. Audience research
  5. Newsroom management or foreign desk management
  6. News producer

  8. Donor relations and project management
