Thomson Reuters Foundation are currently accepting applications for their fully-funded, three-day ‘Covering Extractive Industries’ course in Beirut, Lebanon from 23rd to 25th November 2011.
This course looks at ways of stimulating debate on extractive industry issues, particularly the advent of oil and gas legislation in Lebanon. It covers issues such as oil and gas challenges in Eastern Mediterranean and particularly in Lebanon, the money trail; what money is received, where it goes, how it is used; the legal and legislative challenges, etc. The course is run by two senior Reuters trainers who own extensive experience in extractive industries and covering oil and gas issues.
Eligibility:
Applicants for this course must be Lebanese journalists currently working on covering parliamentary news, as well as oil and gas legislations in Lebanon. They must be able to demonstrate a commitment to a career in parliamentary journalism and must have at least two years’ professional experience. The training course will be in Arabic and therefore requires the participants to be fluent in this language.
Funding:
This is a joint project by Thomson Reuters Foundation and Westminster Foundation for Democracy as part of the bigger parliamentary strengthening programme. Course costs, travel and accommodation are all covered by TRF and WFD. Refreshment and lunches will also be provided during the 3-day workshop.
