Call for concept notes for Small Grants Program up to US$ 30,000 in Maldives. The Small Grants Programme (SGP) is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) .It is rooted in the belief that global environmental problems can best be addressed if local people are involved and there are direct community benefits and ownership.
The maximum grant amount obtainable per project is US$ 30,000. However, in exceptional cases US $ 50 000 may be considered. The project duration is 2 years.
Focal Areas
- Biodiversity conservation
- Climate change mitigation
- Protection of fresh water and marine resources
- Prevention of land degradation
- Elimination of persistent organic pollutants (POPs)
The SGP will support small scale projects relating to the above 5 thematic areas, for activities that conserve and restore the environment while enhancing people’s well-being and livelihoods, taking into consideration gender, vulnerability and equality concerns.

- Civil society organizations (CSOs
- Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- Community-based organizations (CBOs)
- Farmers
- Scientific community
- Women’s groups
- Youth and children organizations.
Selection process
Stage-1: proponents whose concept notes are shortlisted will be first invited to submit full proposals.
Stage-2: The full proposals will then be evaluated to select successful grantees.
