Section IV of the application form of the UN Trust Fund’s Small Grants Programme also seeks to know about the background of the proposed project. Basically, the donor agency wants to get an idea of the indigenous community you would like to work for and this information also helps understand how much you know about your community.
Remember that this section has to be written within limited words so you cannot really bring in a story or a detailed explanation. To start with, a precise description of the location and brief history of the indigenous community can be written here. You can list out the issues or specific issues your project will address within this community. If it is a health problem such as prevalence of diarrhea, malaria etc, you can mention it here. If it is a social issue such as domestic violence or if it is a policy-related issue where the entire community is not getting recognition for its rights by the government, you can write it here.
Make sure you give some live examples or quotes here to highlight the fact that you have done research on this subject and you have taken into account what the community has told you about their situation and about this prospective project.
References are very important in this regard. If you give references, the donor agency will get further convinced of your knowledge and understanding of the issues of your indigenous community. You can quote references to the issues faced by them from newspapers, research publications and even government records.
It is also a good idea to provide information about other projects or government efforts working for the same community in the area.
Section IV of the application form seeks information about project activities for which an example is given in it:
