Sustainability is an important element for all projects. Therefore, it has to be taken into account while writing the proposal for the Small Grants Programme of the UN Trust Fund. The Section VII seeks to know what are the key social, institutional, financial and ecological elements which will make this project sustainable.
If the indigenous community is involved in the project as a stakeholder right from the beginning, then it is easier for the organization to ensure its overall sustainability. Social element such as continued addressing of social issues arising within the indigenous community need to be tackled properly.
For example, if human rights awareness will be created under your project, it has to be sustainable even after your project has ended. The community should have continued access to human rights education after the project so that they continue to be aware about their rights. This can be done by setting up some kind of community-based institution which can run human rights awareness programmes after the project is completed.
Similarly, financial arrangements need to be set up like community contributions or other donor sources so that all financial needs are covered after the project. There can also be an environmental element for project sustainability.
Other important components for a project are empowerment and social inclusion and governance which have to be covered in your project. Section VIII and IX seek specific information about them. Empowerment is about ensuring all equality and participation of elders, women, men and children and also indicate how much project budget will be allocated for women specific activities.
Section X is about partnerships. The rest of the sections cover organizational background and history and detailed budget and other information.
