The Country Development Cooperation Strategy of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for Georgia invites applications to implement the program entitled Civil Society Strengthening Initiative (CSSI) in Georgia. The major aim of the initiative is to build the capacity of the civil society sector as an end in itself while also supporting civil society to be a more effective force in advocating for more transparent and accountable governance and more responsive policies.
The term Civil Society Organizations stand for community groups, non-governmental organizations, labor unions, indigenous groups, charitable organizations, faith-based organizations, professional associations, and foundations.
The broader goal of CSSI is to build a stronger foundation of citizens committed to and engaged in the democratic process, directly and through civil society organizations and other governance stakeholders, its specific purpose is to increase civic engagement, including outside of Tbilisi.
One cooperative agreement of approximately $5,500,000 will be made under this call to implement the program for a period of five years.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Qualified U.S. entities, such as private, non-profit organizations (or for-profit companies willing to forgo profits), including private voluntary organizations, universities, research organizations, professional associations, and relevant special interest associations are eligible to apply for the grant award.
- Organizations must have a commitment to non‐discrimination with respect to beneficiaries and adherence to equal opportunity employment practices.
- USAID/Georgia requires the potential applicants to propose cost sharing so that the activity continues after USAID assistance ends.
- Two separate applications – technical and cost/business must be submitted to be considered for funding.
