- Project ideas to address Violence against Women (VAW) in Developing Countries
AÇEV implemented the project on involving fathers in family care and thereby address violence against women with the grant support of UN Trust Fund.
Project Rationale
Involvement of males to fight against violence against women has been a strategic way to address this core gender issue. However, just as the Mother Child Education Foundation (AÇEV) in Turkey, it is also important to identify a set target group within the male audience to address this problem. Fathers can play an important role reducing violence in families by involving them in family care
Objective
In such a project, the objective can be reduction of violence against women by involving fathers in family welfare. Remember that such a project can be relevant only in those areas where fathers play significantly less role in taking care of their families.
Strategy
AÇEV’s project engaged fathers in prevention of violence against women through an education system where “groundbreaking curriculum” was introduced to foster “interpersonal communication, effective parenting skills, gender equality and non-violence at home and in the community.”
