The European Union Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade Program (EU FAO FLEGT Program) invites concept notes from government institutions, civil society and private sector organizations in timber-producing countries engaged in Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs) with the EU.
Thematic Priorities
- Sharing or developing information and knowledge about the FLEGT Action Plan
- Improving transparency in the forest sector
- Setting up independent monitoring in the forest sector
- Supporting local communities and community forestry activities in line with the FLEGT process or a national strategy for improving forest governance
- Supporting improvements in national timber traceability systems, traceability of forest products and national control systems
- Supporting improvements of policy, legal and regulatory frameworks
- Supporting private sector initiatives
- Addressing domestic and regional market issues
Grant request can be made for up to US$135,000 which can be maximum 80% of the total eligible costs for the project. Project implementation period can be maximum 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be from one of the following VPA countries with the EU- Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Liberia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Republic of the Congo, Thailand and Vietnam.
- Applicant must be a government institution, a civil society organization or an organization/federation of the private sector.
- The concept note must be realistic and feasible considering the envisaged budget and time allocation.
- The concept note must be inline with one of the thematic priorities listed above.
Applicants of selected concept notes will be invited to submit full project proposals.
