Applications are invited by ACDI/VOCA from qualified and experienced candidates for the job/vacancy of Volunteer-Syrian Juniper Research Specialist, Lebanon. The location of this job will be based in Lebanon.
The Lebanon Mountain Trail Association requests volunteer assistance to assess and provide recommendations on how to manage the diebeck disease that is afflicting the Syrian Juniper trees in the region. The volunteer will also provide training for LMTA staff, local workers, farmers and shepherds on how to help protect the trees while living and working amongst them. The assignment will last for approximately one and a half weeks in country, in addition to preparation and research previous to departure. Travel and living expenses are covered.
Qualifications:
- University degree forestry, forest management, natural resource management, or another related degree.
- Ten years’ experience in forest management with strong familiarity in juniper trees.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with MS Word and Powerpoint.
- The volunteer should be prepared to travel for long hours in a bad road network linking the farming communities in the region. He/she should also be prepared to live in these rural communities without internet, air-conditioning and other amenities. The volunteer must also be prepared to work under dry and hot weather conditions.
