The PepsiCo Foundation, philanthropic arm of PepsiCo Company, supports governmental, non-governmental organizations around the world in their projects related to Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. Majorly focused on increasing access to water and funding innovative approaches to improve local sanitation conditions, the Foundation accepts grant requests on regular basis.
Funding Priorities in WASH
- Improve the effects of the global water crisis in communities with severe water shortage or lack of clean water.
- Fund innovative approaches to improve local sanitation conditions and protect cleanliness of water sources.
- Increase the supply of potable water for domestic consumption and secure water for sustained agricultural use.
- Improve farming practices with technological innovation and education so that existing supply of water produces ‘more crop per drop’.
Target Populations and Regions: WASH funding targets communities in the greater Asia Pacific and in African regions where the water crisis is most pronounced and recurring
Examples of Grants/Community Support in WASH
- In 2008, the PepsiCo Foundation provided a $6 million grant to The Earth Institute’s Columbia Water Center (CWC) to support a number of water initiatives designed to bring safe water to underserved communities in water stressed. By the end of 2012, these initiatives had provided safe water to more than 3 million people in Brazil, China, India and Mali. Through our continued efforts, PepsiCo seeks to partner to provide access to safe water to an additional 3 million people by the end of 2015.
- In China, 21 Greater China Region volunteers worked more than 1,000 volunteer hours to establish the Mother Water Cellar project. Working with over 180 primary school students, PepsiCo employees constructed a water purification tower for a rural school in southwest China to benefit over 700 students and teachers. In addition to installing the tower, these volunteers provided sanitation and health training, presented an educational film on water-saving strategies, conducted a water purification experiment and visited rural families in the area.
