The Heineman Foundation is working to fund the programs that target solutions to problems in diverse areas. It provides seed money to start-up projects and new projects within existing organizations for a maximum of three to five years.
The Heineman Foundation for Research, Education, Charitable and Scientific Purposes was established in 1948 by Dannie and Hettie Heineman. Every year, The Foundation provides grants to the organizations working with economically disadvantaged women, in certain areas of environmental research, education outreach, and childhood illnesses. Programs that target youth and those that foster achievement in literature, music and science are also considered for funding. Projects can be funded up to three to five years. The average amount of grants is $20,000 to $50,000 each year.
Areas of Interest
- Programs that enable economically challenged women to enter and remain in the workplace
- Environmental research that will help prevent, reduce and/or eliminate water degradation
- Live music performance for education and outreach
- Research into prevention and treatment of childhood illnesses
- Programs that enable youth to think, create, and communicate effectively
- Programs that support and promote high achievement in music, science, and literature

Eligibility Criteria
- Nonprofit organizations working in any of the mentioned areas of interest can apply.
- Organization must be registered under 501(c) 3 status.
- Projects that have not previously received their funding will be preferred for funding.
- Proposed projects must be from the areas of interest specified above.
Application Procedure
To make a grant proposal the applicant must fill in the application form-
- The Employer Identification Number (EIN), to verify 501(c)3 status
- contact telephone number and email address
- summary of the organization’s mission, limited to 200 words
- organization’s total budget, and years of operation
- A summary of the project limited to 400 words
- Project’s budget
- The size of the grant
Note: The foundation provides funding once a year and does not accept multiple submissions per year from an organization.
