Applications are invited from the eligible candidates for the position of Senior Economist at the World Bank. Job location will be Washington, DC. Essential languages are English and French.
Qualifications and Experience :
Technical Economic Knowledge
- Advanced degree in Economics (preferably PhD) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated strong and versatile technical skills in macro-modeling and assessing macroeconomic impact of various economic policies;
- Proven track record of strong analytical work including publications in refereed journals,
- Ability to bridge links between academics and policy makers and to translate rigorous analysis into sound policy recommendations;
- Ability to translate technical and cross-country knowledge into practical applications and contributions to country and sector strategies;
- Ability to conceptualize, design, and implement major tasks, including through leading and participating in task teams;
Policy Dialogue, Interpersonal Skills, and Results Orientation
- Demonstrated client responsiveness and demonstrated effectiveness in conducting policy dialogue on policy issues with senior government officials, the private sector, donor representatives and civil society
- Proven sense of initiative with a focus on getting things done for the client and on helping the Bank respond rapidly to emerging needs and opportunities
- Ability to enhance the quality of Bank products through early guidance, constructive feedback, encouraging innovation and risk taking
- Enthusiasm and commitment for high-quality development work
- Ability to coach, mentor, and develop more junior staff
- Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines and budgets to produce high quality products
- Ability to gain the trust and respect of country counterparts while maintaining objectivity and clear focus on the Bank’s mission;
Integrative Skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary bank staff teams, governments,
Academia, legislature, civil society, and donors;
- Experience in macro-modeling, including but not limited to Africa, and the ability to integrate micro and sectoral issues within the macroeconomic framework;
- Ability to lead and work in multidisciplinary teams on cross-cutting issues and complex projects, and to undertake cross-sectoral work
- Ability to operate in a matrix management setting, relying on teamwork within and across organizational boundaries
- Strong commitment to team work and knowledge sharing
Writing and Communication Skills
- Excellent writing and verbal communications skills; French is Essential.
- Ability to be an effective Bank spokesperson in a range of fora and to influence and persuade others to accept ideas and suggestions.
