The Church intends to buy a vehicle to facilitate transportation of drugs and sale of eggs. The Pastor will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the project and also give policy direction to the project manager and the youth leader.
2. This is why we want to do it;
Currently Agata Primary School has temporary structures. The Church would like to construct a permanent school structure to enable children have a good academic environment with a spacious football pitch and other co-curricular activities. Secondly, the poultry project will enhance the entrepreneurial skills of the youth at a young age through the working-by-doing approach where they are trained in financial planning, budgeting and monitoring. The proceeds from the poultry will be sloughed back to grow the poultry business while at the same time improving on the nutritional status of the children, a per-condition for cognitive development.
3. This is how to assure u that our plans will work
The project will employ a Project Manager who will endure that the implementation plan of the identified activities is well executed in the agreed on time frames. This will entail development of indicators that will measure progress of the project and will form a basis for the monthly monitoring reports that will track progress and identify critical issues that could enhance performance of the project. Weekly operational meeting will be held with casual laborers and also daily stock taking will be done twice in the morning and evening when the chicken start laying eggs (implementation plan attached).
Indicators: completed and well furnished school structure in the first 3 months; well finished church building, number of chicks purchased; mortality rate (number deaths per day); quantity of feeds purchased per week; number of egg trays produced/stored per week; number of trays sold per day; number of visits by Veterinary officer and quantity and cost of drugs and veterinary services; monthly monitoring report by 5th of the following month.

The Church will be responsible for the drinking water and payment of salary/wages for the workers of the project. The Project Manager will be responsible for keeping proper books of accounts for the project.

Sh. 110, 775,000/= (one hundred ten million seven hundred seventy five thousand) for the Poultry project and Sh. 75,150,000/= (seventy five million one hundred fifty thousand) for school building structure, 10,630,000/= ten million,six hundred thirty thousand, for latrines, 75,852,590,000/= seventy five million, eight hundred fifty two thousand, five hundred ninety thousand for other facilities as u will see them. and this is how we will spend it (Attached)
4.1. All the break down costs; see attachments
4.2. The other costs of paying the salaries/wages of the Project Manager and the porters and water for the chicks will be paid by the Church. i.e. The Project Manager will be paid a monthly salary of Sh. 50,000/-= while the casual laborers will be paid Sh. 10,000/= per day. Water is estimated to cost Sh. 1,500,000/= per month.

5. In Uganda, the young population i.e. between 15-30 years constitutes 64% of the entire population most of whom are either in school or unemployed. Although the official unemployment rate is estimated at only 3.5% (Uganda National Household Survey, 2009/10 report), the unofficial unemployment rate is in the range of about 20% or higher. It is against this background that the leadership of the Church, after erecting a temporary structure to provide basic education to the children some of whom are orphans, also thought it wise to establish a Youth Club that would address the challenges of unemployment and illiteracy at the local level.
The group consists of …200. Children less than 15 years and … who are between 15-30 years. There are 80… boys and 120… girls in the youth club. The major objective of the youth club is to empower them to be self-reliant in future by imparting skills in business management through the learning-by-doing approach. The Church leadership is convinced that with an effective project manager and close supervision by us the Church leadership, the youth will be able to get skills in running small businesses as well as revenue from the sale of the eggs. This project could be replicated in surrounding areas after demonstrating that youth, once trained are able to become innovative and productive. This can be achieved if we successfully receive a grant from the good fundholders like u. THANKS

Child aid Uganda is a non governmental organisation addressing the needs of orphans and other vulnerable children in Lyantonde district.Emphasis has been put on education and providing income generating activities to the guardians of these children so as the children can get an integrated support both in the field of education and improved conditions at home because their guardians will be in position to provide for their basic needs .However, due to the limited resources available, few OVCs have been reached therefore there is still great need to expand our scope of coverage in our area of operation. We are currently supporting 400 children on the education program at different levels of education including primary, secondary and tertiary levels.We shall be more than glad if we are supported to reach out to more orphans and other vulnerable children so as to improve on their survival.

FOLT Uganda’s understanding of poverty:
• We understand poverty as a denial of people’s basic rights – the right to education, the right to basic health care, the right to food, the right to security of life and property … (a right to a life of dignity).

The national Food Rights Campaign
The main aim of the International Food Rights’ Campaign is to safeguard poor people’s right to food in national trade policy by ensuring that international agricultural trade benefits the poor, and by opposing patenting on the resources required for food production.
FOLT recognises that international trade is not the only influence on food security. Decisions made at different levels – from national to household – will also determine whether people have access to sufficient food. The food rights’ campaign therefore forms only one part of FOLT work on food security.
