The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) is responsible for managing the overseas aid program of the Government of Australia. It has a fundamental purpose of overcoming poverty through the Australian aid.
AusAID works in various countries around the world in partnership with governments, NGOs, multilaterals and even with other bilateral agencies. It has prioritized certain countries where the inflow of its aid is higher like for example, Indonesia and other parts of Southeast Asia.
AusAID has various funding schemes for NGOs both long-term and short-term. Many of these funding schemes are managed through the local offices of the Agency in various countries.
The AusAID NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) only provides funding to accredited Australian NGOs only. The funding support can be quite substantial and long-term but small and medium-sized NGOs in developing countries can only benefit from this opportunity in an indirect manner by coming into partnership with Australian NGOs.
The Funding to Developing Country NGOs scheme of AusAID is more of a direct support to NGOs in developing countries. It has categorized this scheme into Direct Aid Program (DAP) and Small Activities Scheme (SAS). But these programs are mostly coordinated by the Australian missions in countries. To identify whether any of these programs are available in your country, you need to search the local website of the Australian embassy in your country.
For example, if you see the snapshot below from the website of the Embassy of Australia in Indonesia, it has a dedicated page of AusAID where it announces opportunities and gives details on its previous projects on funding NGOs.
Similarly, you can start searching through the local website of the Australian Embassy in your country and look for grant opportunities for your NGO. You can search for AusAID funding schemes for NGOs here.
