The Hiroshima Peacebuilders Center (HPC), commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) is inviting applications for 15 Asian Program Associates (PAs) for participation in FY2011 Program for Human Resource Development in Asia for Peacebuilding. This program is an initiative of MOFA and was started in 2007 to support and strengthen the civilian capacity of Japan and other Asian Countries in peacebuilding. HPC runs this program is association with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme.
Those from the following Asian countries can apply for this program: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Timor-Leste, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz, Laos, Malaysia, Mongol, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.
Duration
Coursework in Japan:
January 19, 2012 – February 29, 2012 (approximately 6 weeks)
Overseas Attachment (if applicable)
From March 2012 and onwards (maximum of 6 months)
Qualifications
– At least two years of work experience in the peacebuilding-related fields (broad fields covered by international organizations such as public health, law, finance, public administration, education, media) with a university degree as well as the strong desire to work for peace-building in the future.
– English proficiency to successfully complete the program.
– Health condition suitable for the participation in the program.
– From 25 years to 40 years old.
Selection Process
Selection will be based on the applicant’s past achievements and willingness to work in the field of peace building. Following a screening of application documents, candidates might be contacted for an interview in English by the Embassy of Japan in the applicants’ home country. The telephone interview in English by UNV is also required for those who wish to participate in the Overseas Attachment. The result will be confirmed by the Embassy of Japan in the applicants’ home country or by HPC.
Obligations of the Participants
– Participants are expected to carry out the program with utmost diligence.
– Participants should submit a final report and provide inputs to improve the program.
– Only for those who participate in Overseas Attachment: Participants should also submit an online report during the Overseas Attachment as instructed by UNV.
