Water is an indispensable development factor required for day to day functions. Water is not only required for drinking but ensures necessary hygiene and other domestic needs, for irrigation farm land and develop market gardening to different villages.
However, polluted water transmits several waterborne diseases. In developing countries, these waterborne diseases are common cause of several medical issues and lead to death amongst population without adequate resources. Clean water is highly essential for basic sanitation purposes as well as to preserve the health of community along with contribution to its economic development.
Elisabeth and Amélie Fund within the King Baudouin Foundation is the outcome of a family wish to act together in favour of the public interest. The present appeal is launched to support initiatives which encourage access to water leads to equitable and sustainable management.
This will target mainly Belgian organization working with local partners and which implicates them in different phase of the project. The project is of a non-commercial nature and benefits the public interest.
Moreover, the project also provides concrete solutions to problems pertaining to sustainable development including:
- Entails an element of education and awareness regarding to hygiene
- mainly targets populations without resources
- meets the demands of the communities affected and respects local cultures and realities
- Takes ‘gender’ (relations between men and women) into account
- Needs to have durable results
- Needs to provide leverage
- Access to drinking water and to sanitation
