Executive Summary
This proposal aims to empower young people with leadership capabilities, green skills, and employment opportunities that contribute to sustainable development and climate action. As economies transition toward environmentally sustainable models, there is growing demand for a workforce equipped with green competencies in sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, environmental management, circular economy, waste management, climate adaptation, and green entrepreneurship. However, many young people face barriers to quality education, skills development, employment, and leadership opportunities. The initiative will equip youth with practical green skills, leadership training, and innovation opportunities that enable them to become drivers of sustainable economic growth and environmental stewardship.
Background and Context
Young people represent a significant proportion of the global population and play a crucial role in shaping sustainable futures. At the same time, youth unemployment and underemployment remain major challenges in many countries. Climate change, environmental degradation, and resource scarcity further highlight the need for a new generation of leaders capable of developing and implementing sustainable solutions.
Green jobs are increasingly emerging across multiple sectors, creating opportunities for youth to contribute to environmental sustainability while improving their livelihoods. Leadership development, technical training, entrepreneurship support, and civic engagement programs can help young people participate actively in the green economy and community development.
Investing in youth leadership and green skills contributes to economic resilience, environmental protection, innovation, and social inclusion.
