Executive Summary
This proposal aims to empower young people as leaders, innovators, and advocates for climate action and environmental stewardship. Climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and environmental degradation are among the most pressing challenges facing the world today. Young people are disproportionately affected by these challenges and will play a critical role in shaping sustainable futures. However, many youth lack access to opportunities, resources, training, and platforms to meaningfully participate in environmental decision-making and climate action initiatives. The project will strengthen youth leadership capacities, promote environmental awareness, support community-based climate solutions, and foster active participation in environmental conservation and sustainability efforts.
Background and Context
Climate change is causing rising temperatures, extreme weather events, ecosystem degradation, water scarcity, and threats to food security and livelihoods. Environmental challenges are increasingly affecting communities, economies, and public health worldwide.
Young people have emerged as powerful advocates for environmental protection and climate justice. Their creativity, innovation, and energy can drive transformative action at local, national, and global levels. However, youth often face barriers to participation in policy processes, environmental programs, and leadership opportunities.
Investing in youth leadership and environmental stewardship helps build a generation of informed and engaged citizens capable of contributing to sustainable development, climate resilience, and environmental protection.
Problem Statement
Youth face several challenges in contributing to climate action and environmental sustainability:
- Limited access to environmental education and climate knowledge
- Insufficient opportunities for leadership development
- Low participation in environmental decision-making processes
- Limited access to funding and support for youth-led initiatives
- Weak community engagement in environmental protection activities
- Growing impacts of climate change on youth livelihoods and well-being
- Lack of platforms for youth advocacy and innovation
These challenges limit the potential of young people to contribute effectively to climate solutions and environmental stewardship.
