Executive Summary
This proposal aims to empower women through the development of green enterprises and sustainable livelihood opportunities that promote economic inclusion, environmental sustainability, and community resilience. Women play a critical role in natural resource management, agriculture, environmental conservation, and local economies, yet they often face barriers to accessing finance, markets, technology, training, and business development opportunities. Green enterprises offer pathways for women to generate income while contributing to climate action, environmental protection, and sustainable development. The initiative will support women entrepreneurs in establishing and scaling environmentally sustainable businesses that create jobs, improve livelihoods, and strengthen local economies.
Background and Context
The transition to a green economy is creating new opportunities in sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, waste management, eco-tourism, green manufacturing, recycling, conservation, and climate-smart enterprises. Women have significant potential to contribute to and benefit from these emerging economic opportunities.
However, many women continue to face socio-economic barriers including limited access to capital, business training, land ownership, technology, and professional networks. Supporting women-led green enterprises can promote gender equality, reduce poverty, strengthen environmental stewardship, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
Global development frameworks increasingly recognize the importance of women’s economic empowerment and green entrepreneurship as essential components of sustainable development and climate resilience.
Problem Statement
Women entrepreneurs face several challenges:
- Limited access to financing and investment opportunities
- Insufficient business development and entrepreneurship training
- Restricted access to markets and value chains
- Limited ownership and control of productive resources
- Low participation in green economy sectors
- Gender-related social and institutional barriers
- Vulnerability to climate and economic shocks
These challenges limit women’s economic opportunities and reduce their participation in sustainable development initiatives.
