Executive Summary
This proposal aims to empower women as leaders in climate action, environmental conservation, and sustainable development. Women are disproportionately affected by climate change due to social, economic, and environmental inequalities, yet they possess valuable knowledge, leadership, and innovative solutions for building climate-resilient communities. The initiative will strengthen women’s participation in climate adaptation, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, and green entrepreneurship. By enhancing leadership, technical skills, and access to financial and institutional support, the project will promote gender equality while advancing climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods.
Background and Context
Climate change is intensifying the frequency and severity of droughts, floods, heatwaves, storms, and other environmental challenges that directly affect food security, water resources, public health, and livelihoods. Women, particularly those in rural and marginalized communities, often bear a greater burden due to limited access to resources, land ownership, finance, education, and decision-making opportunities.
At the same time, women play a vital role in agriculture, water management, energy access, biodiversity conservation, and community development. Their traditional knowledge and leadership are essential for developing effective climate adaptation and mitigation strategies.
International frameworks such as the Paris Agreement, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and national climate policies emphasize the importance of gender-responsive climate action and women’s leadership in environmental governance.
Problem Statement
Women and communities face several climate-related challenges:
- Limited participation of women in climate decision-making and environmental governance
- High vulnerability to climate-related disasters and livelihood disruptions
- Limited access to climate finance, technology, and capacity-building opportunities
- Unsustainable use of natural resources and ecosystem degradation
- Low adoption of climate-smart and environmentally sustainable practices
- Gender inequalities in access to education, employment, and leadership opportunities
- Limited support for women-led green enterprises and climate innovations
These challenges hinder inclusive climate action and sustainable development.
Goal
To strengthen women’s leadership and participation in climate action, environmental conservation, and sustainable development while enhancing community resilience and gender equality.
Objectives
- Promote women’s leadership in climate adaptation and environmental governance
- Increase adoption of climate-smart and sustainable livelihood practices
- Support women-led green enterprises and climate innovations

- Promote gender equality in climate policies and decision-making
Project Description
The project will empower women through leadership training, climate education, technical skills development, and entrepreneurship support. Activities will focus on climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy, sustainable water management, ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation, waste management, circular economy practices, and disaster risk reduction.
Women-led community groups will implement local climate action projects such as reforestation, watershed restoration, renewable energy initiatives, sustainable farming, clean cooking solutions, waste recycling, and conservation programs. Digital technologies will support climate information services, mobile advisory platforms, environmental monitoring, and access to financial services.
The initiative will facilitate access to grants, climate finance, microcredit, and business development services for women-led enterprises. Partnerships with governments, financial institutions, research organizations, NGOs, and the private sector will strengthen technical assistance and long-term sustainability.
Special attention will be given to rural women, Indigenous women, women farmers, women entrepreneurs, youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
