AHEAD is a registered Trust formed in the year 1999 by a group of local Human Rights Activists with long standing experience in the field of social service. The experience gained from working among especially the tribal and some of the most deprived, economically exploited, socially suppressed and educationally backward sections of people in Orissa has convinced the members that all forms of development rest on the foundation of an awareness on human rights. AHEAD is engaged in working for the protection and promotion of human rights for the most needy and deprived people in ORISSA since last ten years.

OBJECTIVES;
* To initiate action for social transformation and ensure equality particularly of the poorest, the women, children, SC and ST people.
*To work for strengthening the implementation of the UDHR and other Interna tional treaties. Also fight for the rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.
* To generate awareness for protection of environment, ecology, traditional knowledge, secularism and social amity.
* To establish network with other NGOs, to take up work on similar lines.
* To extend active support in the implementation of programmes meant for the poor people to integrate them with the national mainstream.
* To conduct and propagate through conference, studies, research, documentation and publication matters relating to human rights and development.
AREA OF OPERATION:
The Trust shall operate any where in the state of Orissa, though the undivided Kalahandi district will be its main focus area. However through different programs and in collaboration with similar other organization it may extend its operation to national and international level whenever there is such a need.
TARGET GROUP :
ACTIVITIES OF AHEAD: (currently running or completed in the recent past):
1. Self Help Groups and Micro-Finance- supported 645 persons with micro-credit to take up IGAs and improve their entrepreneurship skills.
2. Capacity Building of elected women representatives of PRIs in Khariar: 185 members trained on functioning of Panchayatiraj institutions and good governance.
3. Micro Level Planning and preparation of village development plans: 70 micro plans were being prepared with the active participation of the people.
4. Women’s empowerment through literacy programme supported by GOI. More than 4000 women made functionally literate.
5. Advocacy on the issue of IDP(Internally Displaced Persons) in Khariar Block.
6. Training of village youths on disaster preparedness and management.
7. Human Rights Education for school children.
8. Right To Livelihood; advocacy on NREGA.
