The Movement of Men against AIDS in Kenya (MMAAK) is a National non-governmental organization that is involved in interventions, and policy initiatives that engage men and boys in effective ways to reduce HIV and AIDS infections, gender inequalities and promote the health and well being of women, men and children. The Organization is involved in the facilitation and formation of initiatives targeting Men within five provinces in Kenya. MMAAK is also affiliated to several major international organizations as well as local and national groups with extensive experience in engaging men and boys in HIV and AIDS, gender equality and reduction of gender based violence. MMAAK was established in 2001 after the declaration of HIV and AIDS as a national disaster in Kenya and in response to gaps within the Kenya government National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan. The strategic plan was deficient in strategies related to integrating and enhancing male involvement in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
MMAAK is the only key organisation in Kenya that is specifically targeting men, as beneficiaries, making them acknowledge their challenges, getting their commitment by making them assume responsibilities and crusaders of men in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
MMAAK currently has projects in five of Kenya’s eight provinces which have high HIV/AIDS prevalence namely: Nairobi, the Coast, Central, Nyanza and Rift Valley.
The priority of MMAAK as an organization is to increase the number of the men and boys reached by interventions that promote and engage them in gender equality and violence prevention. To achieve this, MMAAK is implementing three complementary strategies namely:
• Advocacy, Gender Equality and policy
• Capacity Building and Youth Development
• Prevention, Care and Support to People Living with HIV and AIDS
Each strategy has been developed through a consultative process with MMAAK members, in collaboration with other stakeholders. In the recent past, MMAAK has been able to build the capacity of the communities through networking with other partners.
The strategies implemented have effectively supported in achieving the following key results:
• Improved quality of life of people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS
• Increased number of men participating in HIV and AIDS activities and seeking / accessing HIV and AIDS related services
• Increased participation of communities and opinion leaders in HIV and AIDS prevention and care activities
• Strengthened capacity of MMAAK members and Staff
VISION.

MMAAK’s MISSION is:-
