Gram Bikash Shohayak Shangstha, popularly known as GBSS, is a non-political, non-profit and non-government organization (NGO). Reregistered with the Department of Social Services (no: Dha-02507) and NGO Affairs Bureau (no: 816) of Bangladesh, it has been working for almost two decades since 1988. Started its activities with its own resources in the community of a small remote village of Nrsingdi District, GBSS is currently working in both rural and urban areas in the country, thanks to the continued support and assistance of national and international development partners.
It is one of the leading organizations in the NGO sector implementing numerous programmes with greater zeal and enthusiasm following community development approach for sustainable development of the community as a whole especially of the disadvantaged, underprivileged and disabled people of the country. Side by side with all stakeholders including the Government of Bangladesh, GBSS, as a commitment, is actively participating to fight poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals as well as PRSP targets.
Goal:
The goal of GBSS is to mobilize a vast majority of the people to be self confident, self reliance and to create awareness among them for living a decent and meaningful life in all respect and to make them productive force.

Special Intervention of GBSS:
SANDIPWAN Inclusive School: A School for Pre-schooling, Alternative support, Assistive device support, Counseling support, Recreation for both of disabled and non-disabled child.
Lokokendra: A forum where people both male and female have easy access for membership and worked voluntarily in a self motivated manner.
Alokito Bhubon: A Centre for Orphan Girl Child
Bijoy Bakery: An initiative for the improvement of the socio economic condition of the rural people.
Alternative Health Care Service: The primary objective is to reduce provide health service to the poor people.
Improving Life Skill: Gram Bikash provided assistance to the poor disabled children through medical services and referral services under this program.
Counselling: Counseling with the parents/guardian of disabled children as well as the local elites and chairman & member of local union parishad was an important program of Gram Bikash.
Self advocacy group: This group was formed considering the importance of the locality towards address the needs of the disabled children.
Campaign on Disability Rights: As a part of awareness campaign, Gram Bikash observed National Disability Day at Narshingdi and National level. Rally and seminar was organized at Narshingdi in this respect and representatives of GBSS participated at National level.
Promoting Rights of Women with Disabilities (WWD): Gram Bikash is very much sensitized and supportive to the Women with Disabilities. The organization commenced different development approaches towards development and improvement the livelihood of the disabled women through reflects method and disability CIRCLE development.
Livelihood Strengthening: Gram Bikash had remarkable steps for improving livelihoods of the families of Children with disabilities.
Human Rights Development and Awareness on Trafficking: The program was focused especially for the poor and disadvantages women and child aiming to protect human rights and create awareness on trafficking.
Sports and Cultural Program: Gram Bikash organized sports and cultural program at Narshingdi district towards ensure recreation of the disabled students and children.
GBSS’s multi disciplinary experts are drawn from different areas of Social Sciences, Micro Finance, Marketing, Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries & Livestock, Communication, Education and Health, all of whom have admirable academic and professional standing and experience. At present total number of staff of GBSS are 112. Among them male 48 and female 64.
