Transportation Development Foundation (TDF) is accepting applications for Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program. The main goal of the scholarship program is to provide financial assistance to help the sons, daughters or legally adopted children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty pursue post-high school education. The scholarship program is established to honor the memory of those who died while working to provide safer and more efficient roads.
Scholarship amount can be up to $5,000 which can be used for fees or charges required for tuition; expenses for text books, course work, lab fees and other materials as required by a course instructor (e.g., goggles, art/drawing supplies, glass slides, etc.) for required course assignments or projects; and fees or charges for room and board while attending school; fees or charges for room and board while attending school.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Only the sons, daughters or legally adopted children of highway workers who die or have become permanently disabled in roadway work zone accidents are eligible to apply.
- Applicant’s parent must have been employed by a transportation construction firm or a transportation public agency at the time of his or her death or disabling injury.
Completed and signed application form must be accompanied with an official copy of the applicant’s transcript and grade report ; two letters of recommendation; proof of parent’s death in line of duty (in case of permanently incapacitated, documents/letters showing the disability was work-related, along with a statement of injury from employer); proof of guardianship if applicant is not living with surviving parent; typewritten statement; photograph; completed and signed ‘Free Application for Federal Student Aid’ (FAFSA) forms for the current year; copy of applicant’s most current year’s federal tax return and a copy of parent’s most current year federal tax return; copy of the acceptance letter from the college, university, technical school, etc. where the applicant plans to attend; and statement providing the approximate annual cost.
