The Ecumenical Women’s Initiative (EWI) has launched a competition to fund the most creative and thought provoking proposal for a public outreach event on International Women’s Day of Peace and Disarmament (24 May) 2014 with the theme ‘Women, disarmament and peace’ with the support of the Women Peacemakers Program. Women from the Western Balkans are invited to submit proposals of idea/event on the theme.
Disarmament in this case is a condition of being disarmed – implying dismantling barriers of fear in order to be open to the other and develop trust.
Ecumenical Women’s Initiative (EWI) is a non-governmental, non-profit making organization that supports women as initiators and agents of change in faith communities and in society by supporting and connecting individuals and groups working in the fields of women’s rights, peace building and reconciliation, belief-based ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue & cooperation in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, encouraging networking and cross border cooperation.
Women Peacemaker Program is an independent, women-led activist organization, dedicated to advancing sustainable peace through gender-sensitive active nonviolence.
Prize –
The winner of the competition will receive an EWI prize of up to EUR1000 to host a media friendly event based on a fresh, innovative concept of disarmament, women and peace; an event with the broadest outreach for a small budget.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Women from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia who are associated with a registered organization are eligible to submit proposal for the competition.
Timeline –
- 14 April 2014 – Application Deadline
- 28 April 2014 – Winner Announcement
- 24 May 2014 – Award Ceremony
- 24 May is International Women’s Day of Peace and Disarmament
