Call for Proposals 2016: CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism

The Central European Initiative (CEI) and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) are currently inviting proposals for its CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism with an aim to investigative reporting despite the difficult conditions under which they often have to operate.

Award Categories

The Call is divided into two categories:

  • Professional journalists (4.000 EUR)
  • Young professional journalists(1.000 EUR)

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Call is open to nationals of the 18 CEI Member States: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
  • Print, Radio, TV, news agencies and Internet media are admitted.
  • For Category 1: candidates should have been actively engaged in investigative reporting over the last two years and should still be active in journalism. Two samples of journalistic work will be relevant for the evaluation by the jury.
  • For Category 2: candidates should have been actively involved in investigative reporting, even in the context of training activities organised by schools/universities/NGOs and, as a result, should have published at least one investigative story meeting all professional standards. One sample of journalistic work will be relevant for the evaluation by the jury.

PeaceNexus Foundation’s 2016 Organizational Development Grant

The PeaceNexus Foundation has announced a call for applications for its 2016 Organizational Development Grant. NGOs in the Western Balkans, West Africa, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan as well as international NGOs can apply for this opportunity.

Eligibility criteria

  • Only registered non-profit organisations with a peacebuilding relevant mandate and activities are eligible;
  • Think-tanks, academic institutions and policy makers without operational peace-building activities in a context affected by violent conflict are not eligible;
  • Applicant organisations must have a bank account, publish annual financial reports, be accountable to a constituency and have a governing body;
  • Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to non-violence, gender equality and ethnic diversity;
  • Individuals and organisations that are currently working with PeaceNexus, as consultants, grantees or partners receiving advisory services, are not eligible for PeaceNexus organisational development support;

In 2016, local CSOs/NGOs from the following countries are eligible:

  • West Africa: Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Sierra Leone, Senegal, The Gambia

  • The organisation is eligible, has a peace relevant mandate in the given context and has the potential to be a ‘champion of change’.

Global Reconciliation Fund: 2016 Conflict Mitigation and Reconciliation Programs and Activities

The United States Government (USG), as represented by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian assistance (DCHA), Office of Conflict management and Mitigation (CMM) invites applications from qualified entities for funding a program entitled “2016 Conflict Mitigation and Reconciliation Programs and Activities (Global Reconciliation Fund)”. The program carry out the activities that mitigate conflict and promote reconciliation by bringing together individuals of different ethnic, religious, or political backgrounds from areas of civil conflict and war.

The program aims to make significant strides in the overall goal of conflict mitigation, peace and reconciliation through the implementation of People-to-People (P2P) activities in selected eligible conflict-affected countries.

Funding Information

  • Subject to funding availability, USAID intends to provide approximately US $16,000,000 in total USAID funding.
  • The ceiling for the single award under this program is US $1,500,000.
  • Actual funding amount are subject to availability of funds as well as content, quality and number of applications received, needs and competing priorities.

Call for Proposals 2016: CEI Cooperation Fund for Innovative Actions favouring Mobility & Networking

The Central European Initiative (CEI) is currently inviting proposals for its CEI Cooperation Fund for innovative actions favouring mobility and networking. CEI Cooperation Activities aim at capacity building by knowledge transfer and sharing, in particular from EU CEI Member States to non-EU CEI Member States, and at exchanging experiences and good practice among all CEI Member States by favouring mobility and networking.

Proposals need to focus on capacity building by transferring and sharing know-how, in particular from EU CEI Member States to non-EU CEI Member States. The activities can take the form of conferences, seminars, workshops, and training activities.

  • Ideas and proposals from all sources, sectors and all types of organisations including for-profit, nonfor-profit, or private companies are welcome. Applications involving several organisations and/or from various countries are possible.
  • Entries must be original ideas from contestants. They may propose new or improved ways to implement existing solutions, combine them, or adapt them to a different context or target group, but they cannot be exact copies of those. The contestants must demonstrate the novelty of their solution, in comparison with those already developed/implemented by themselves or by others in their context.
  • The contestants are also expected to indicate how the participation in the Competition may benefit their idea (e.g. prize, mentoring, networking, visibility or other related benefit).
  • Contestants that have already received an EU or Euratom prize cannot receive a second prize for the same activities.

European Commission: Creative Europe-Cross Sectoral Refugees Integration Projects

European Commission is seeking proposals for its Creative Europe-Cross Sectoral Refugees Integration Projects 2016 to support cultural, audio-visual and cross-sectorial projects that aim to facilitate the integration of refugees into European communities by fostering respect and understanding for diversity, democratic values and citizenship, intercultural dialogue, tolerance and respect for other cultures.

Objectives

  • The establishment of a Guarantee Facility targeting the cultural and creative sectors
  • The promotion of transnational policy cooperation
  • Supporting a network of Creative Europe Desks

Projects Priorities

Priority will be given to projects that can:

  • help refugees and migrants socialize and express themselves without necessarily speaking immediately the host country language.
  • be learning platforms in a wider sense, fostering respect and understanding for diversity, intercultural and civic competencies, democratic values and citizenship.
  • give EU citizens the opportunity to discover, learn from and understand the values and cultures of refugees and migrants and – in the process rediscover and enrich their own.
  • support the showcasing and co-creation of cultural and/or audiovisual works across Europe.
  • offer the possibility of collaboration with organisations in other sectors in order to stimulate a more comprehensive, rapid, effective and long-term response to this global challenge.

Funding Information

  • An estimated budget of 1,6 million EURO is available for co financing up to 80% of the total eligible budget.
  • 8-12 projects will be selected. The minimum grant is 100.000€ and the maximum is 200.00€
  • The maximum duration of a project is 24 months.
  • Applications that fall outside this funding framework will not be considered.

European Union: Enhancing the Employability of Egyptian Youth

European Union is seeking proposals from organisations for the programme entitled “Support to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Reform in Egypt – Phase II”  with an objective to enhance the employability of Egyptian youth and unemployed/low-skilled workers and improve their transition to employment, through development /update and implementation of training programmes, in particular, retraining and entrepreneurship programmes with the contribution of the non-governmental organizations (NGOs), professional organisations and Enterprise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Partnership.

The aim of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is to support the transition to employment to increase the employability of Egyptian youth, jobseekers, and workers, as well as the capacity of the TVET system to develop appropriate programmes to meet the labour market demand, with a particular attention to selected key economic sectors, notably Tourism.

Objectives

The call is divided into three lots.

  • Lot 1: To provide young entrepreneurs (aged 18-30 with focus on women) an opportunity to access both financial and non-financial business development support/ incubation to establish their start-ups / businesses with high potential of sustainability. This lot aims at supporting young entrepreneurs who are just coming into existence and beginning to display signs of future potential but not yet fully developed and those who already started but still in need for further assistance/development for expansion.
  • Lot 2: To facilitate transition to employment for women and youth job seekers through building their capacities and enhancing matchmaking techniques, as well as, improving the existing workforce productivity through skill up training programmes.
  • Lot 3: To facilitate job placement for unemployed youth by improving the match between job vacancies and job seekers skills, and provide skill up training for the existing workforce in the Tourism sector and to support the youth job seekers (entrepreneurs) to start-up their own business in the tourism handicrafts.

Grant Information

  • Lot 1: Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between EUR 500,000 to EUR 1,500,000.
  • Lot 2: Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between EUR 200,000 to EUR 500,000.
  • Lot 3: Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between EUR 500,000 to EUR 1,500,000.

Location

Actions must take place in Egypt.

Duration

The initial planned duration of an action may not be lower than 36 months nor exceed 48 months.

Eligibility Criteria

  • In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
    • be a legal person and
    • be a specific type of organisation such as: non-governmental organisations (NGOs) registered
    • with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Enterprise TVET Partnership (ETPs), business associations, international (inter-governmental) organisations and
    • be effectively established in an eligible country as defined for the European Neighborhood Instrument: Member State of the European Union, partner countries benefitting from the European Neighborhood Instrument (Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, Palestinian Authority of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Syria, Tunisia, Ukraine), a contracting parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway) , Developing countries and territories, as included in the list of ODA recipients published by the OECD-DAC, which are not members of the G-20 group, overseas countries and territories, and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo. This obligation does not apply to international organizations and
    • be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary and
  • The lead applicant must act with co-applicant(s) as specified hereafter. Co-applicants participate in designing and implementing the action, and the costs they incur are eligible in the same way as those incurred by the lead applicant.
  • The lead applicant and its co-applicant(s) may act with affiliated entity(ies) that include:
    • Entities directly or indirectly controlled by an applicant (daughter companies or first-tier subsidiaries). They may also be entities controlled by an entity controlled by an applicant (granddaughter companies or second-tier subsidiaries) and the same applies to further tiers of control;
    • Entities directly or indirectly controlling the applicant (parent companies). Likewise, they may be entities controlling an entity controlling the applicant;
    • Entities under the same direct or indirect control as the applicant (sister companies).
