The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of External Relations Officer based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system.
Key Job Responsibilities
The External Relations Officer will perform the following functions-
- Establish and maintain relations with a portfolio of donors to keep them informed about WHO’s work in emergency risk management and response, provide answers to their questions and to advocate with them for funds.
- Liaise with WHO country offices, HQ departments, and donors for the finalization of contribution agreements and manage the internal clearance.
- Develop/update donor profiles and engagement plans for an assigned portfolio of donors and identify fundraising opportunities.
- Collaborate with technical and grant management staff to develop/advise/review proposals for funding for WHO’s emergency risk and crisis management work.
- Prepare resource mobilization correspondence, presentations, proposals, briefing notes and other relevant products to support the mobilization of financial resources.
- Support the organization of meetings with donors.
- Liaise with regional and country offices to advice on donor engagement.
- Provide resource mobilization surge support to regional and country offices, as required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- University degree in a relevant field, e.g. international or public relations, communications, social sciences, business administration or law.
- Advanced university degree in one of the relevant fields. Studies in resource mobilization and/or communications.
- Excellent communication skills including public speaking and writing skills.
- Capacity to collaborate and coordinate across multiple agencies to common purpose.
- Ability to work in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environments.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- At least 2 years of combined national and international experience in external relations, resource mobilization, client relationship management and in partnership building and advocacy.
- Experience working with and/or influencing funding systems, donor organizations and decision-makers. Experience in emergency and disaster risk management. Experience in managing publishing processes. Experience in writing and editing.
- Expert knowledge of English is required. Intermediate of French and Arabic would be an advantage.
