The AIDS and Rights Alliance for Southern Africa (ARASA) are inviting staff members of civil society organizations working on HIV, AIDS and human rights in African countries for 2015 online training course “Advocating on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, HIV and Human rights”.
The online training course is one of several offered by ARASA throughout the year with view to strengthening African civil society expertise on HIV, TB and Human Rights advocacy. The course will be conducted in English via online training for a maximum of 30 participants, it will commence on the 4th of October 2015 for a period of two months.
Objectives
The objectives of this online module are:
- To equip participants with relevant information on critical human rights challenges faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex persons on a daily basis, particularly in regards to HIV prevention and other Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) issues.
- To facilitate discussion and reflection on human rights frameworks and instruments, which apply for the protection of the rights of LGBTI persons
- To equip representatives of civil society organizations, community stakeholders and relevant professionals with tools to support effective advocacy on sexual orientation, gender identity, HIV and human rights.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicants eligible for the course should:
- Be staff members of civil society organizations working on HIV, AIDS and human rights in African countries;
- Be fluent in English
- Have existing skills and experience in human rights and HIV/Sexual and Reproductive health Rights (SRHR)
- Have daily access to the internet as well as access to a computer with the following specifications:
- Operating System: Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, ME or XP; MacOS 9 or MacOS X
- Hardware: minimum 128 Mbytes of RAM preferably 512 MB, 1GByte of free disk
- Software: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel 2000 or higher Adobe Acrobat Reader 5 or higher.
- Browser: Internet Explorer 5 or higher OR Netscape Navigator 5 or higher
- Modem: 56 kbps minimum.
- Be committed to participating fully in all the elements of the short course and carrying out training and advocacy for increased access to HIV and SRHR services for LGBTI persons in their own countries
- Be committed to promoting a rights based response to HIV and AIDS in their own countries and in the region, and to engage in regional collaboration
