Mercy Corps has invited applications from eligible and deserving applicants for job/vacancy of Program Manager – Resilience Project – CAR. The location of this job will be based in Bangassou, Mbomou, Central African Republic. The nature of this position is full-time/regular. Kindly note that this position is contingent on funding.
Knowledge & Experience
• MA/S or equivalent in social science, management, international development or other relevant field.
• Minimum 5-7 years’ NGO experience in progressively responsible positions, including at least 2 years in a senior management position.
• Experience working in remote emergency settings is essential. Experience in Africa and particularly working in conflict-affected zones is a plus.
• Strong understanding of US Government and UN agency compliance issues.
• Strong management skills, with good understanding of relevant cross-cultural issues.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English, including report development, writing and editing.
• Knowledge and experience of related to food security and agricultural livelihoods restoration, cash-transfer programming, child protection and/or GBV is essential.
• Proven skills in financial management.
• Demonstrated ability to function as a social entrepreneur and proven success with building, managing and leading a team of professionals and the ability to function as a team player among peers.
• Demonstrated proficiency with the MS Office software (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
• Fluent French and English are essential; Sango a plus.
• Patience, flexibility and excellent diplomatic skills are critical!
Success Factors
The successful candidate will have proven experience working in difficult environments and emergency contexts. S/he will have effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills with an attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and work independently and cooperatively with team members. An interest and ability to travel and work independently in very remote environments, the ability to cope with insecurity, an awareness of and sensitivity to multi-cultural international development work and ability to train and facilitate dialogue among a diverse group of individuals with various skill sets and working styles are all essential for this position, as are a commitment to working with community members to make concrete improvements to their livelihoods and living conditions. S/he will be highly effective at building teams, problem solving, conflict resolution and capacity-building of national staff and will also have the skills to engage, motivate and encourage staff to bring creative solutions to development issues, identify opportunities for increased impact, and pursue project objectives. An even temperament and a good sense of humor are much appreciated.
