Background and Rationale
The rapid growth of social media and digital platforms has increased access to information but also amplified misinformation and hate speech. False narratives and harmful content undermine democratic institutions, fuel social divisions, and can incite violence.
According to UNESCO, media and information literacy is essential for combating disinformation and promoting responsible digital citizenship. The United Nations has also highlighted the need for multi-stakeholder approaches involving governments, civil society, youth, and tech companies to address online hate speech effectively.
This proposal aims to strengthen community resilience against misinformation and online hate through digital literacy, fact-checking initiatives, youth engagement, and multi-sector collaboration.
