Executive Summary
Climate change is increasingly threatening the livelihoods of vulnerable communities through erratic rainfall, prolonged droughts, floods, soil degradation, and declining agricultural productivity. Marginal farmers, landless laborers, women, and youth are among the most affected, facing reduced incomes, food insecurity, and forced migration.
This project aims to enhance sustainable, climate-resilient livelihood opportunities for climate-affected communities by promoting diversified income sources, climate-smart agriculture, green enterprises, skill development, and access to markets and financial services. Over a period of 36 months, the project will directly benefit 2,000 households by strengthening adaptive capacities, improving household incomes, and building long-term resilience to climate shocks.
The project adopts a community-led and inclusive approach, prioritizing women, youth, and marginalized groups. By integrating livelihood diversification with environmental sustainability, the project contributes to poverty reduction, food security, and climate adaptation goals.
Background and Problem Statement
Climate variability and extreme weather events have become more frequent and severe, disproportionately impacting rural and peri-urban communities dependent on climate-sensitive livelihoods such as agriculture, livestock rearing, fisheries, and forest-based activities.
Key challenges faced by climate-affected communities include:
- Declining agricultural yields due to droughts, floods, and soil degradation
- Loss of traditional livelihood options
- Limited access to climate-resilient skills and technologies
- Inadequate market linkages and financial services
- Increased unemployment and distress migration
- Disproportionate burden on women, who face reduced income opportunities and increased care responsibilities
Without targeted interventions, these communities remain trapped in a cycle of poverty, vulnerability, and environmental degradation.
Project Goal
To improve the socio-economic resilience of climate-affected communities by promoting sustainable, diversified, and climate-resilient livelihood opportunities.
