Equator Initiative is accepting nominations of community-based local groups or organizations working in rural area for Equator Prize 2014. The major aim of the award is to recognize twenty-five local sustainable development solutions for people, nature and resilient communities.
Award –
- Twenty-five community organizations will be awarded the 2014 Equator Prize.
- Each winning community receives US$5,000, with five selected for ‘special recognition’ and an additional $15,000 (USD).
- Representatives of winning initiatives will also be supported to participate in a series of events held in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2014.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Nominees must have been in operation for at least three (3) years.
- Nominee must be community based or local group operating in rural area.
- Nominee must be located within a country receiving support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), excluding countries with a high level of development.
- Initiative can be Community-based organizations; community-based enterprises and cooperatives; indigenous groups; non-governmental organizations; community-based initiatives associated with conserved areas or other biological reserves; women’s groups; and Youth groups.
- Nominated initiatives must be located in one of the following countries – Eastern Europe and Central Africa; Middle East and North Africa; Latin America and the Caribbean; Asia and the Pacific; and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Nominations can be sent via email too, though online nomination is encouraged. Nomination form is available in many different languages to cover broader region.
