The Freedom to Create Prize seeks to recognize the creativity of artists who use their talents to build social foundations and inspire the human spirit. The 2011 Prize is now open for nominations for two categories: Main Prize and Imprisoned Artist Prize.
Individuals from any group, gender, religion or nationality above 16 years of age can apply for this prize. Both nominations and self-nominations are accepted.
The criteria for evaluating the Freedomg to Create Main Prize and Imprisoned Artist Prize include:
1. The creativity of the artist in pursuing the freedom to create and conveying their message for social justice.
2. The courage and/or personal risk the artist has demonstrated in pursuing the freedom to create while promoting their. work.
3. The subject matter of the artwork and its relevance to a particular social issue.
4. The creativity the artist has displayed to demonstrate how art can influence change.
5. The extent to which the artist embodies the vision, mission and values of Freedom to Create.
