Netherlands Development Assistance (NEDA) implements the Development Cooperation Policy of the Government of Netherlands under its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. NEDA’s main focus is to combat poverty and it provides substantial aid money to countries, especially in Africa to improve the living conditions of the people. It also ensures that human rights issues are addressed properly in developing countries. In addition to this, it works closely on improving education, water and sanitation, environment and reproductive health. Combating HIV/AIDS is also one of its priorities. NEDA has four thematic areas as its focus. They are:
- Security and development
- Growth and equity
- More rights and opportunities for women and girls
- Climate, sustainability and energy
In order to achieve its objective, NEDA cooperates with a number of partners. These partners include international agencies, the UN, the World Bank, governments and NGOs. NGOs play a critical role in working towards combating poverty and other issues and funds are channelized locally through the Dutch Embassy for the above mentioned purposes. NEDA also works through Dutch-based international organizations.
