The BEST 2.0 Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Territories in European Overseas is a funding facility, supported by the European Commission is currently accepting proposals for its Medium Grants to promote the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of ecosystem services, including ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation, as a basis for sustainable development in Europe’s Overseas Countries and Territories.
The overall indicative amount made available for this call for proposals is EUR 2 000 000 (two million euros).
Objectives of the Programme
- The overall objective of BEST 2.0 is to promote the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of ecosystem services, including ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation, as a basis for sustainable development in OCTs.
- The specific objective is to enable, empower and strengthen local authorities and civil society organisations which are committed to local development, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of ecosystem services in OCTs.
Size of grants
Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between minimum EUR 100,001 & maximum EUR 400,000.
Duration
Medium Grants have a maximum duration of 36 months for projects submitted in 2015.
Location
Actions must take place in one or more of the Overseas Countries and Territories in the following regions:
- Pacific
- Caribbean
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must be:
- A public or private body, actor or institution (applications from individuals are not eligible).
- Registered in an EU Member State or in an EU Overseas Country and Territory.
- Directly responsible for the preparation and management of the project: applications presented by a body acting as an intermediary for a third party are not acce
- Grants are open to:
- Civil society organisations and community-based initiatives (working with local government partners is encouraged).
- Local governments and their departments and services (working with civil society is encouraged).
- Municipalities or communal services
- The applicant may act individually or with co-applicant(s) who must satisfy the eligibility criteria as applicable to the applicant himself.
- The applicant and its co-applicant(s) may act with affiliated entity (ies) having a structural link with the applicants. Eligible entities may thus include-
- Entities directly or indirectly controlled by the beneficiary (daughter companies or first-tier subsidiaries). They may also be entities controlled by an entity controlled by the beneficiary (granddaughter companies or second-tier subsidiaries) and the same applies to further tiers of control;
- Entities directly or indirectly controlling the beneficiary (parent companies).
- Entities under the same direct or indirect control as the beneficiary (sister companies).
- Entities legally defined as a e.g. network, federation, association in which the proposed affiliated entities also participate or the beneficiary participates in the same entity (e.g. network, federation, association) as the proposed affiliated entities.
