The Central European Initiative (CEI) and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) are currently inviting proposals for its CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism with an aim to investigative reporting despite the difficult conditions under which they often have to operate.

Award Categories

The Call is divided into two categories:

  • Professional journalists (4.000 EUR)
  • Young professional journalists(1.000 EUR)

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Call is open to nationals of the 18 CEI Member States: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
  • Print, Radio, TV, news agencies and Internet media are admitted.
  • For Category 1: candidates should have been actively engaged in investigative reporting over the last two years and should still be active in journalism. Two samples of journalistic work will be relevant for the evaluation by the jury.
  • For Category 2: candidates should have been actively involved in investigative reporting, even in the context of training activities organised by schools/universities/NGOs and, as a result, should have published at least one investigative story meeting all professional standards. One sample of journalistic work will be relevant for the evaluation by the jury.

Call for Proposals 2016: CEI Cooperation Fund for Innovative Actions favouring Mobility & Networking

The Central European Initiative (CEI) is currently inviting proposals for its CEI Cooperation Fund for innovative actions favouring mobility and networking. CEI Cooperation Activities aim at capacity building by knowledge transfer and sharing, in particular from EU CEI Member States to non-EU CEI Member States, and at exchanging experiences and good practice among all CEI Member States by favouring mobility and networking.

Proposals need to focus on capacity building by transferring and sharing know-how, in particular from EU CEI Member States to non-EU CEI Member States. The activities can take the form of conferences, seminars, workshops, and training activities.

Funding Information

Applicants can request a CEI contribution up to the maximum amount of fifteen thousand Euro (15.000 EUR).

ERA-HDHL Call for Joint Transnational Research Proposals: Biomarkers for Nutrition and Health

The JPI HDHL together with the European Commission is currently inviting Research Proposals on the topic “Biomarkers for Nutrition and Health (BioNH)”.

The Joint Programming Initiative “A Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life” (JPI HDHL) has been established to coordinate research in the areas of food, diet, physical activity and health in order to achieve tangible societal and health impact and to strengthen European leadership and competitiveness in this field.

Objectives

The proposals have to fulfill the following conditions:

  • Proposals should focus on biomarkers that are modifiable by diet (or a combination of diet and physical activity) and reflect a healthy state, or focus on its transition towards diet- and lifestyle-related disease. Studies focusing on disease biomarkers are outside the scope of the call.
  • Proposals can aim to identify new biomarkers, or build upon previous identification studies through necessary validation.
  • Proposals which focus on identification of new biomarkers should demonstrate the relevance of the biomarker to human health and should carefully consider approaches for validation.
  • Proposals should
    •  make use of existing biobanks and/or cohorts;
    • explain why no existing biobank or cohort is used.
  • Proposals should explain how the data gathered through their project would be available to the wider research community.
  • Proposals should avoid overlap with the aims and objectives of FOODBALL and Mirdiet.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The joint research proposals may be submitted by applicants working in universities (or other higher education institutions), non-university public research institutes, hospitals and other health care settings.
  • Participation of private parties is encouraged as well as commercial companies, in particular small and medium-size enterprises.
  • Only transnational projects will be funded: each consortium must involve a minimum of three partners eligible from the participating funding organizations and a maximum of six partners eligible from the participating funding organizations from at least three different countries.
  • No more than two eligible partners from the same country will be accepted in one consortium.

European Union: Providing Basic Services to Refugees in Thailand and Myanmar

European Union is seeking proposals from organisations with an aim to continue with the provision of basic services in the nine camps and in the hosting communities in Thailand, while preparing Myanmar refugees for a possible return process.

It also aims to contribute to a long-term solution to the challenges encountered by the Myanmar refugees living in 9 camps along the Myanmar border.

Expected Outcomes

  • Continued access to basic services for refugees in the nine camps along the Thai-Myanmar border and their hosting communities, leading to self-reliant and sustainable outcomes.
  • Improved camp governance through sector-based interventions, leading to more self-reliant and empowered encamped refugees, including the most vulnerable.
  • Improved preparedness for a sustainable voluntary return, in line with international standards (spontaneous and promoted return).

Grant Information

The call is divided into three lots.

  • Lot 1: Actions covering both health and water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH) sectors
    • Any grant requested under this call for proposal must fall between EUR 3 900 000 to EUR 4 000 000
  • Lot 2: Actions on education sector
    • Any grant requested under this call for proposal must fall between EUR 1 900 000 to EUR 2 000 000
  • Lot 3: Actions on livelihoods sector or protection/governance sector
    • Any grant requested under this call for proposal must fall between EUR 1 400 000 to EUR 1 500 000

Location

The bulk of the actions must be implemented in the nine refugee camps along the Thai-Myanmar border and their hosting communities, targeted activities carried-out across the border, in South-East Myanmar may also be foreseen to contribute to preparedness for a voluntary return

Duration

The initial planned duration of an action may not be lower than 24 months nor exceed 36 months.

Eligibility Criteria

  • In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
    • be a legal person and
    • be non-profit-making and
    • be a non-governmental organisation, international (inter-governmental) organisation as defined by Article 43 of the Rules of application of the EU Financial Regulation or RTG agencies at central or local level  and
    • be established in a Member State of the European Union or one of the eligible countries set for the DCI Regulation under the Art. 9 of the CIR Regulation. This obligation does not apply to international organisations and
    • be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary and
    • operate in partnership with at least one local partner
  • The lead applicant must act with co-applicant(s) as specified hereafter. Co-applicants participate in designing and implementing the action, and the costs they incur are eligible in the same way as those incurred by the lead applicant.
  • The lead applicant and its co-applicant(s) may act with affiliated entity(ies) that include:
    • Entities directly or indirectly controlled by an applicant (daughter companies or first-tier subsidiaries). They may also be entities controlled by an entity controlled by an applicant (granddaughter companies or second-tier subsidiaries) and the same applies to further tiers of control;
    • Entities directly or indirectly controlling the applicant (parent companies). Likewise, they may be entities controlling an entity controlling the applicant;
    • Entities under the same direct or indirect control as the applicant (sister companies).

European Commission: Creative Europe-Cross Sectoral Refugees Integration Projects

European Commission is seeking proposals for its Creative Europe-Cross Sectoral Refugees Integration Projects 2016 to support cultural, audio-visual and cross-sectorial projects that aim to facilitate the integration of refugees into European communities by fostering respect and understanding for diversity, democratic values and citizenship, intercultural dialogue, tolerance and respect for other cultures.

Objectives

  • The establishment of a Guarantee Facility targeting the cultural and creative sectors
  • The promotion of transnational policy cooperation
  • Supporting a network of Creative Europe Desks

Projects Priorities

Priority will be given to projects that can:

  • help refugees and migrants socialize and express themselves without necessarily speaking immediately the host country language.
  • be learning platforms in a wider sense, fostering respect and understanding for diversity, intercultural and civic competencies, democratic values and citizenship.
  • give EU citizens the opportunity to discover, learn from and understand the values and cultures of refugees and migrants and – in the process rediscover and enrich their own.
  • support the showcasing and co-creation of cultural and/or audiovisual works across Europe.
  • offer the possibility of collaboration with organisations in other sectors in order to stimulate a more comprehensive, rapid, effective and long-term response to this global challenge.

Funding Information

  • An estimated budget of 1,6 million EURO is available for co financing up to 80% of the total eligible budget.
  • 8-12 projects will be selected. The minimum grant is 100.000€ and the maximum is 200.00€
  • The maximum duration of a project is 24 months.
  • Applications that fall outside this funding framework will not be considered.

  • The 28 Member States of the European Union,
  • The EFTA/EEA countries: Iceland and Norway,
  • EU candidate countries: Turkey, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia,

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible projects are implemented by creative partnerships that will involve a project leader and at least two other partners (having their legal seat in at least two different countries taking part in the Culture sub-programme of Creative Europe).
  • The project leader and at least one of the partners must be active in the cultural and creative sectors. The additional partners may be active in relevant sectors such as the public, social, healthcare, educational spheres or any other field that could support the integration of refugees.
  • Individuals may not apply for a grant.

EU Action Grants: Supporting National/Transnational Projects to enhance the Rights of Victims of Crime/Violence

European Union is seeking applications from the organisations for its Action grants to support national or transnational projects to enhance the rights of victims of crime/victims of violence. This call for proposals is based on the 2015 annual work programmes of the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (REC Programme) and of the Justice Programme.

Aims

  • To co-fund transnational projects that support victims of violence in line with the specific objective of the Rights, Equality and Citizenship (REC) Programme:
    • To prevent and combat all forms of violence against children, young people and women, as well as other groups at risk of violence in close relationships; and
    • To protect the victims of such violence (Daphne strand).

European Union is seeking applications from the organisations for Action grants to support transnational projects to promote good practices on gender roles and to overcome gender stereotypes in education, training and in the workplace. This call for proposals for action grants is based on the 2015 annual work programme of the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (REC Programme).

The call aims at contributing to the promotion of equality between women and men in education, training and the labour market. Projects should aim at changing attitudes, behaviours and practices that hamper progress towards equality and restrict the potential of women, men, girls and boys.

The indicative available budget under this call for proposals is EUR 3,350,000

Priority Areas

  • To address the stereotyping of educational and career choices and to promote gender equality in education, training and career guidance;
  • To attract women into male-dominated sectors or occupations, and conversely to attract men into female-dominated sectors or occupations;
  • To challenge stereotypical assumptions about the roles of women and men in the labour market, including in leadership positions, and to change behaviours and practices that hamper equality;
  • To ensure that work practices promote gender equality, and do not reinforce stereotypes, gender segregation and inequalities.

ERA-NET Sumforest call for Transnational Collaborative Research Projects: Sustainable Forests for the Society of the Future

The ERA-NET Sumforest, funded by the European Union, currently invites proposals for collaborative research and development of transnational consortia of research organizations and companies, under the topic- Sustainable Forests for the Society of the Future.

Thematic Areas     

The scientific scope of the present call for proposals addresses collaborative projects in three research areas which are incorporated into the following three topics of this call:

  • Comparative assessment of the sustainability performance of renewable and non-renewable raw material-based value chains to inform policy decisions.
  • Risk resilient forest management – Adapting forest management regimes which incorporate risk assessment related to potential climate change impacts to inform policy decisions.
  • Investigation, appraisal and evaluation of trade-offs related to the provision of forest ecosystem services to inform policy decisions.

 Eligibility Criteria

  • The call invites proposals for collaborative research and development of transnational consortia of research organisations and companies from at least 3 different countries participating in the call.
  • Each project proposal must:
    • Include at least three independent eligible legal entities from a minimum of three different countries from the list of participating countries.
    • Be written in English.
    • Use the application forms provided via the call website and fulfill the formal requirements for proposal submission.
    • Satisfy the National Regulations of each respective country.
    • Be submitted correctly and completely via the call website.
    • The total requested funding for a project partner (or partners from the same country) cannot exceed the indicative amount allocated by their respective national funding partner.
    • A Project Consortium Agreement must be established no later than six months after project start and submitted to the Call Secretariat. If no Project Consortium Agreement is sent within the first reporting period, funding of the project will be stopped by the National Funding Partners.
    • The project duration must be between 18 and 36 months.
