International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) is an organization that was founded in 1952 in Amsterdam with a vision to create a Humanist world. The IHEU is always ready to work together with other humanist, atheist, rationalist, secularist, and similar organizations worldwide for creation of a human centered world where each person can live a life of dignity. IHEU also works towards building the global Humanist movement to protect human rights and promote Humanist values across the world.
IHEU Congresses
IHEU holds International Congresses every three years in different parts of the world. Each Congress is organised by a host Member Organisation in conjunction with the IHEU Executive Committee.
IHEU Congresses aim at:
- Bringing together members of IHEU’s Member Organisations and individual supporters
- Focusing global humanist attention on selected issues
- Showcasing the role and aims of IHEU
- Creating increased visibility for IHEU and humanism in the media
- Helping build a network of international contacts among Congress participants.
World Humanist Congress 2011
The World Humanist Congress 2011 will be held from August 12 – August 14, 2011 at Oslo, Norway. The conference will provide discussion and training on many issues concerning Humanists, in addition to the main congress theme of “Humanism and Peace”. On August 10 and 11, the two days before the Congress, IHEU will offer a leadership training programme for Humanist activists.
The leadership training program will help leaders and activists to share and learn better ways to run Humanist groups and campaigns. Congress participants will also experience first-hand why the Norwegian Humanist Association is the most successful Humanist group in the world.
