Sophia College for Women, Mumbai will organize Munsophical 2011 Conference in Mumbai from December 9-11, 2011. The theme for Munsophical 2011 Conference is “ideas for a better world”. This conference is being organized in association with the UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan to provide a platform for students to address critical global issues.
Sophia College for Women is inviting students to participate in the conference and is seeking applications for Individual Delegates and International Press Corps.
Sharing Ideas
The concept of Model United Nations has facilitated the interaction between students across borders, encouraged debate over global concerns that affect people and spread an all-essential awareness in order to equip the world for a better tomorrow.
Students form teams and represent countries as delegates. They put forth ideas, discuss and debate international policies and treaties to maintain harmonious global relations while trying their best to safeguard the interests of their respective nations.
This model of academic awareness is older than the United Nations itself. It dates back to the 1920s when students in the United States of America were participating in the Model League of Nations, the intergovernmental organization that had then been in existence. Though the League of Nations has since been replaced by the United Nations, the idea remained. The need to know more, the gumption to seek solutions and the tenacity to believe in making the world a better place lived on.
