The Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) provides up to SEK 500,000 in catalytic seed funding for organizations in partner developing countries to implement projects making strategic use of ICT to improve education, health and democracy resulting to lasting and sustainable impact. Grant request can be made for full funding or co-funding of projects to be implemented for 1-2 years initiated and run by local organizations.
Eligible organizations should approach with concept note. Invited organizations should submit full proposal within 2-4 months of concept note approval. Sometimes, call for applications are made on specific areas of interest with fixed deadline.
ICT4D is the Swedish Program for ICT in Developing Regions (SPIDER). The Spider ICT4D projects assist projects concerning the following thematic areas
- Democracy: e-government, e-governance and ICT for empowerment
- Education: education management, e-learning and digital literacy
- Health: health care management, e-health and public health
Crosscutting ICT issues
- Low cost and high quality technology
- Free and open source software (FOSS)
- Mobile technology for development (M4D)
Crosscutting Development Issues
- Youth Empowerment
- Cultural Creativity
- Capacity Development
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications should be made for thematically and geographically relevant projects. Priority Countries- Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
- Projects must address crosscutting ICT and development issues.
- Projects must demonstrate long-term growth, up-scaling, and lasting impact.
- Projects should form Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (MSPs) with relevant actors and co-funders.
- Innovative and experimental projects are encouraged, along with strategic interventions in specific areas.
How to apply?
- Prepare and submit a brief (maximum 4 pages) concept note describing the project concept, the applying organization, collaborating partners, and indicative budget.
- Successful applicants will be invited to submit full project proposal within 2-4 months of the concept note approval. The detailed proposal will be maximum 10 pages outlining the background, objectives, and work plan of the project, thematic alignment, communication strategy, sustainability, risk management plan, monitoring and evaluation, and budget.
