The NGO Aid Map fellowship is an Inter-Action initiative emphasized on collecting information on NGOs’ work at the project level and making it accessible to donors, businesses, NGOs, governments and the public through an online as well as interactive mapping tool.
The Fellow will have a background in communications, journalism or public relations preferably with an interest in international development and humanitarian response. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker who can develop a multi-faceted communications strategy which utilizes both non-traditional as well as traditional mediums.
The main motto of the fellowship is to:
•Promote transparency
•Facilitate partnerships and improve coordination
•Help guide decisions about where to direct aid resources
•Inform advocacy and influence policy
Working in close co-ordination with the Inter-Action mapping team, the Fellow will develop a comprehensive, long-term communications strategy for NGO Aid Map. The strategy should integrate innovative ideas as well as social media to promote NGO Aid Map to the U.S. government, donors and the American public; showcase member projects and build a recognizable brand for NGO Aid Map which emphasizes accountability and transparency.
Qualifications for Fellowship
•Have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or public relations or a related field; ideally with an interest in humanitarian and development assistance.
•Experience in communications, public relations or journalism, preferably with experience developing a communications/media strategy.
•Experience with social media promotions and increasing online presence.
•Willing to commit 35-40 hours a week in InterAction’s Washington, DC office from mid-May through July, 2012.
•High attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
•Creativity, strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, good writing skills and the flexibility to meet changing deadlines and priorities.
•Ability to work as an active team member and exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
The Fellowship is open to US residents and those legally eligible to work in the United States. A stipend of $5,000 will be offered for the duration of the Fellowship. Inter Action will not provide reimbursement for travel to Washington, DC; living expenses; and/or any costs associated with obtaining necessary work documents.
