The People’s Republic of China is offering 25 (twenty five) fellowships to the students from Africa (46 member states), Asia and the Pacific (29 member states), Arab States (2 member states) for advanced studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in selected Universities in China. The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is cosponsoring the fellowship program. The program is entitled UNESCO/China (The Great Wall) Fellowship.
The fellows receive monthly living allowance; one-time settlement subsidy; registration and tuition fees, fee for laboratory experiment and other relevant fees; accommodation; fee for outpatient medical services; one-time inter-city travel ticket; and relevant train tickets. Additionally, UNESCO offers the fellows with international travel to and from China; and a monthly allowance of US$150 to be paid in local currency during their stay in China.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant must hold at least the equivalent of the Master’s Degree/above or the Bachelor’s Degree.
- Applicant must be proficient in English, maximum 45 years of age and in good health.
- The applications must be endorsed by the relevant Government body (the National Commission or Permanent Delegation).
Application material includes – completed application form; 3 photographs; notarized photocopies of diplomas and certificates, and school-certified transcripts of complete academic records (translated in English); copy of he university’s invitation letter, for those students who have been admitted in advance by a Chinese university; two letters of recommendation (in English) by professors or associate professors familiar with the work of the candidate; a study or research proposal containing no less than 400 words (in English) of the post-graduate study to be undertaken during the candidate’s stay in China; the Foreigner Physical Examination form to be completed and communicated to UNESCO; and English language proficiency certificate. Note: The applicants must specify three (3) possible host institutions in China indicating one field of study as personal preference.
