The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) in partnership with the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) invites applications for the West Africa Peacebuilding Institute (WAPI) 2014 training session. The three weeks training will be held at KAIPTC, Accra, Ghana from 1-26 September 2014. WAPI training program is aimed at strengthening the capacity of civil society-based peacebuilding practitioners and institutions in order to promote the development of indigenous responses to conflict. The training aims to make the participants competent, informed and active peacebuilding practitioners.
WACSI is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to strengthen the institutional and operational capacities of civil society organizations through capacity strengthening programs for increased and effective policy engagement, and the promotion of development, good governance and democratic values in West Africa.
Total eight highly interactive and participatory courses will be offered during four-week period, each week having two 5-day intensive courses running concurrently. Applicants should choose total four courses, maximum one course per session.
Sessions & Courses:
- Session 1 – Peacebuilding Paradigms: Concepts and Praxis AND Peacebuilding Program Design, Implementation, Monitoring & Evaluation
- Session 2 – Peace Education AND Human Security & Development
- Session 3 – Natural Resource Governance & Conflict Management AND Gender & Peacebuilding
- Session 4 – Dialogue and Mediation: Design and Processes AND Early Warning & Response: Building Capacity for Preventive Peacebuilding
Eligibility Criteria:
- Peacebuilding practitioners, students, policy makers and civil society members, business community and individuals are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be interested in peacebuilding concepts and practices, processes of dialogue and mediation, conflict analysis and development, cross-border crimes, electoral disputes management, youth and peace education, conflict prevention and gender, natural resource conflict management, and early warning & early response.
- Applicants can choose maximum one course per session.
