BIRAC is accepting proposals for its Social Innovation program “Innovative Technology Solutions for Waste to Value” for products affordable & relevant to social health in order to support young innovators/ entrepreneurs through partners(academic technology centres technology incubators and related organizations).
The scheme aims to invest in ideas and innovations that improve the health and well-being of all Indians and provides affordable product development in the social sector. The scheme also targets creating a pool of innovators who identify the specific needs and gaps in critical sector and then work towards funding innovative solutions. The social innovators are supported for developing market-based solutions that have a potential to bring breakthrough technologies and product to vulnerable populations.

Focus Areas
- Treatment of faecal sludge and municipal solid waste.
- Biological or thermo chemical routes for generation of clean energy and resources recovery.
- Safe disposal of waste collected from non-sewered toilets.
- Safe re-use of treated waste/by products.
Eligibility Criteria
- Indian Company (ies), registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956 with at least 51% Indian shareholding and having DSIR* recognized in-house R&D unit.(*Companies in the process of obtaining DSIR recognition can also apply)
- Public/ Private Universities and Research Institutions having a well-established support system for basic and/or applied research with registration/recognition from a statutory body are also eligible to apply for the program.
How to apply
Proposals under CRS are required to be submitted online only. For submission of proposals, Institutions need to register with BIRAC through “Institution User Registration”
